Windsor Castle opening times vary throughout the year, however the Castle is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

March to October:

  • Thursday - Monday: 10:00 am - 5:15 pm (last admission at 4:00 pm)

November to February:

  • Thursday - Monday: 10:00 am - 4:15 pm (last admission at 3:00 pm)

Please note:

  • Entrance to the State Apartments closes 30 minutes after the last admission time

Early closures

  • 16 December: Castle closes at 3:15 pm (last admission 1:30 - 2:00 pm)

Changes to normal opening hours

As Windsor Castle is a working royal palace, sometimes the entire Castle or the State Apartments within the Castle need to be closed at short notice.​

St George’s Chapel

  • St George’s Chapel is open on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday
  • Closed to visitors on Sundays as services are held throughout the day. Visitors to the Castle on Sundays will not be able to enter the chapel or view the burial place of Queen Elizabeth II
  • Access to St George’s Chapel may be limited on busy days and during service
    • Early closures:
      • 23 December (chapel closes to visitors at 1:00 pm)

Semi-State Rooms

  • During the winter months an additional five rooms, known collectively as the Semi-State Rooms, are included in the visitor route
  • The Semi-State Rooms usually open from autumn-spring each year. They are currently open until 30 March (subject to change)
     

Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House

  • Access to Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House may be limited on busy days
